The lore

On July 26, 2023, the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability convened a hearing titled Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena: Implications on National Security, Public Safety, and Government Transparency. Three witnesses testified: Ryan Graves, former U.S. Navy F/A-18 pilot; Commander David Fravor of the 2004 Nimitz intercept; and David Grusch, former National Reconnaissance Office representative to the UAP Task Force and 14-year Air Force veteran.

Under oath, Grusch testified that he had been informed, in the course of his official duties, of a multi-decade crash retrieval and reverse-engineering program to which the UAP Task Force had been denied access. When asked whether biological material had been recovered from downed craft, he said yes. When asked whether that material was human or non-human, he answered: "Non-human. That was the assessment of people with direct knowledge on the program I talked to."

Grusch had interviewed approximately forty witnesses over four years. He had filed a whistleblower complaint with the Intelligence Community Inspector General in 2022; the ICIG found it both credible and urgent.

He declined to provide specifics in open session. He said he would discuss locations, program names, and evidence inside a Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility, with members holding the appropriate clearance.

The cameras stayed on. The room got very quiet.
