Why this tee

Fit: Mid-weight with a clean drape — structured enough to read as a considered choice, relaxed enough to wear through the whole museum floor without a second thought.

Print: Chest-sized diorama rendering, ink applied in the flat graphic register of scientific illustration — the kind of image that belongs on a specimen label in a cabinet no one has opened since 1987.

Vibe: For natural history museum members who read the placard text twice, anyone who has noticed that certain taxonomy entries stay in "further study" for decades without resolution, and the person who photographs the diorama before the docent notices.

The lore

The display case has a particular quality of light — warm, diffuse, designed to present whatever is inside it as already understood. The placard is authoritative. The mounting is permanent. The specimen does not move.

This is the proposition of the natural history museum: that the things inside it have been named, classified, and placed in their correct relation to everything else. The velvet rope exists to preserve that relationship. You look. The specimen stays still. Order is maintained.

The tee introduces a complication. The figure in the case is wearing a suit. Its posture is correct. Its expression is the specific neutral expression of something that has been observed so many times it has stopped reacting to observation. Homo reptilus, the placard might read — pending peer review, status: active inquiry, collection date: ongoing.

Taxonomy was always a system of control as much as knowledge. The decision about what goes in the case and what writes the placard about what goes in the case is a decision someone made. The diorama holds its pose regardless.

The docent will be back in twelve minutes. Until then, study the specimen carefully.

Sizing & styling

True to size — slim through the body. If you prefer a slightly looser fit or want room to layer, size up one. Wears clean with dark chinos and minimal footwear, or over a white long-sleeve where the print reads as the only design element that needs to be there.

Fabric & care

100% compact-yarn combed cotton, 210gsm mid-weight, pre-shrunk, bio-polished, single-needle stitched neckline, ribbed cotton-poly collar, tear-away label. Heather Gray is 90% combed cotton / 10% viscose. Machine wash cold, tumble dry low, do not iron the print.
