Collection: Fake Moon Landing Collection

Apollo 11 launched July 16, 1969. Six and a half hours after touchdown on July 20, Neil Armstrong stepped off the ladder. In 2006, NASA confirmed it could not locate the original SSTV magnetic tapes of that footage. The agency reconstructed the broadcast from secondary recordings and moved on.

This collection sits in the gap between what happened and what was archived. Stanley Kubrick released 2001: A Space Odyssey in April 1968, fifteen months before Tranquility Base. The Apollo 11 press kit, released in advance of launch, listed the broadcast plan in detail. The tapes are still missing. The film is on the National Film Registry. Both facts are public record.
